journey of the pedestrian looking up

As we set out on the footpath of our site visit, I began to photograph the top-ends of the buildings we passed by. The site visit began from Pratt's Higgins Hall, making our way through Atlantic Yards to the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) cultural district and on to the Fulton Street Mall (I wasn't able to make it up to the Fulton Street Mall due to a hospital appointment). But never the less, I was intrigued by the spatial and elevational experience of traveling on foot through this urban room.

This simple experience of walking and looking up has resulted in a series of photo essay. It is very interesting to me to observe the urban skyline. What was intended to be a series of elevation drawings on a flat piece of paper or the flat screens of the computer envisioned by the Architect has obviously been translated in different dimensions and perspectives through the point of view of the pedestrian walking through by the building or the space.

This is my first attempt at studying the facades of the buildings I passed by during the site visit through outlining the buildings. I would like to further develop my research and observation by documenting elevational drawings of the buildings in downtown brooklyn. I have the interest in documenting the entire elevational experience of downtown Brooklyn, meaning all three sites; Atlantic Yards, BAM Cultural District and the Fulton Street Mall, but I know it would be too much to handle. As for now, I have yet to decide.
